ABOUT COLOURS MARTIAL ARTS
Colours Martial Arts offers high-quality martial arts classes for children, adults and families of all ages in Plymouth and Ivybridge.

We have been teaching in the Plymouth and Ivybridge area for over twenty years now, and have helped to empower hundreds of students through martial arts training.

We teach the Korean art of Taekwon-Do, a modern martial art which empowers both the mind and body through comprehensive physical and mental training.

For those looking to get fitter, lose weight, gain confidence and empowerment, develop a knowledge of self-defence skills, or those who are simply looking for something different to try... we look forward to helping you on your journey!
As well as our Juniors, Teens and Adults classes, we also offer a programme that's tailor-made for children aged four to seven years old, which we call 'Colours Cubs'.
These classes use the martial art of Taekwon-Do as a vehicle to teach basic self-defence skills as well as essential life skills, including communication, focus and discipline, coordination, fitness and self-esteem.

This programme helps to ensure that children are both mentally and physically successfully both inside the martial arts setting, and outside.
OUR CLASSES
COLOURS CUBS
Our 'Colours Cubs' classes are designed exclusively for four to seven year olds. They use martial arts as a platform to teach playground self-defence and child safety (previously known as 'stranger danger'), as well as self-control, discipline, self-regulation, confidence and self-esteem.
JUNIORS
Our Junior syllabus, for children aged seven to sixteen, teaches the art of Taekwon-Do as a method of self-defence, made applicable to the playground setting, the park, or wherever else your child may find themselves. Our Juniors also learn sport-sparring skills, as well as traditional forms/patterns, whilst always setting the standard for courtesy, discipline and respect.
TEENS & ADULTS
Our Adults study the traditional art of Taekwon-Do, which is the scientific use of the body in the method of self-defence; a body that has gained the ultimate use of its facilities through intensive physical and mental training. We train traditional forms/patterns, as well as power-breaking, practical self-defence scenarios, and sport-sparring skills.
MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS
Mr Chris McKenna, a 4th Degree Black Belt in ITF Taekwon-Do, is our chief instructor. He began training in Taekwon-Do in 1997, alongside his family, and started teaching in 2001. Since then, he has seen guided many students of various ages and backgrounds to achieve their Black Belt... and beyond! Mr McKenna is a former Colours Sergeant in the Royal Marines, and so brings not only his martial arts knowledge, but also his vast experience of physical training, to our classes.
Mr Adam Green is a 4th Degree Black Belt in ITF Taekwon-Do, and began training under Mr McKenna in 2006. He has enjoyed competing at county, national and international level, and has achieved multiple Bronze, Silver and Gold medals in multiple disciplines. The highlights of his competitive career (so far!) have been competing in the ITF World Cup in Budapest in 2016, and winning Gold at the Holland Cup, also in 2016. Mr Green works as a primary school teacher, and particularly enjoys passing on skills and confidence to children.
